About Gert
Gert lives in the beautiful city of ‘s-Hertogenbosch (or Den Bosch) in the south of The Netherlands.
He resides close to the city center, overlooking the Dommel river and the unique nature reserve ‘Bossche Broek’. This is a low-lying, bird-rich wetland and grassland area on the south side of the city center. Nowhere else in the Netherlands will you find a natural area so close to a city centre. Gert loves to wander around here, or to take his boat on the Dommel river, admiring the beautiful Dutch clouds and hoping to spot his favorite bird: the Kingfisher.
Gert is self-taught when it is about painting. He has always been very much interested in techniques that are used by painters. The attendants in museums always get a bit nervous when Gert is around, as he used to study the paintings from a 10-15 cm distance. He is inspired by lots of different artists, in particular by Egon Schiele, Jackson Pollock, Fernando Botero, Auguste Rodin, Marc Chagall, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Hendrik Willem Mesdag, Karel Appel, Kees van Dongen and Toon Laurense.
In his business life, Gert has the privilege to spend his time in Amsterdam, Brussels, London and Paris. He loves to work in an international context to be able to meet people with different backgrounds and cultures. He is passionate about investments and geopolitics.
Gert very much enjoys the good things in life. He loves to organise trips abroad, taking his wife and four boys all over the world to show them the beauty of nature, history and culture. He has a strong fascination for waterfalls, with Murchison Falls (Uganda) as his favorite.
Music plays a very important role in Gert's life. He plays piano himself, listens to a broad variety of genres and regularly visits concerts. He has music in his head at every single minute of the day. All his paintings are being named to (and inspired by) the song he had in his head during the creation of it. From artists like Prince, Marillion, Pink Floyd, Alanis Morissette, David Bowie, Bryan Ferry, Solomon Burke, Steve Hacket, Genesis, Post Malone, Tom Waits, Lenny Kravitz, Rolling Stones, Amy Winehouse, Laid Back, Juan Luis Guerra, Venessa Paradis, Seal, Simply Red, ELO.
Gert is an artist of life, enjoying every single day to the max.
